Today, on the 16th of June, we celebrate Sussex Day, and the wonderful, rich heritage, history and culture of our beautiful county. I hope everyone can take the chance to get out and enjoy some of the simple pleasures Sussex has to offer today and this week - especially with the superb weather we're enjoying.
As you can see in the picture above, Sussex MPs and I stood together today on the Terrace under the Palace of Westminster to pose with the Sussex Flag to commemorate the day, and it's always lovely to mark this annual celebration, as someone who has grown up and raised a family in our fabulous county.
Each year, on this day, the Sussex Flag is flown in each of the 6 sub-divisions of Sussex, and is hoisted over the Council House in Chichester, from Maltravers Street in Arundel, from St Nicholas’ Church in Bramber, from Lewes Castle, from St Nicholas' Castle in Pevensey, and from Hastings Castle; each representing their respective historic division of Sussex. A number of other towns across the county.
My weekend summed up everything that makes us proud to be from Sussex. On Sunday, I went to to Whitemans Green with the dog to take in the stunning views of the Downs, after having a great Saturday evening in the sunshine listening to Pete Bradbury’s fantastic new band at the Farmers in Scaynes Hill - the atmosphere was brilliant and the weather couldn't have been better!
