The Member of Parliament for Mid Sussex, Mims Davies, has welcomed the increase in EU citizens signing up for settled status in the UK after Brexit. Over 2.6 million people have now signed up for the scheme and Ministers from across the Government and figures from wider society are urging those who have not yet signed up to the settled status scheme to do so.
The United Kingdom is leaving the European Union on 31st January 2020 and EU citizens can apply for settled status at: www.gov.uk/eusettledstatus. It is available to EU or EEA nationals living in the UK for over 5 years. If you have been living in the UK for less than five years you can still apply and will be initially granted pre-settled status.
Commenting, The Member of Parliament for Mid Sussex, Mims Davies said:
“I strongly encourage all constituents from EU states to apply for settled status. The Scheme is free and the gov.uk website sets out clearly the steps which need to be taken by those wishing to apply. We, as a country, should be proud so many of our friends from the EU have chosen to make their lives here in the UK and securing their future rights in law it is absolutely the right thing to do. I am proud to be part of a Government which is working hard to protect the rights of all the people who live in the UK.
Also commenting, Minister of State for the Home Office Brandon Lewis said:
“[I’m] delighted that there have been nearly 2.6 million applications to the EU Settlement Scheme.
“EU citizens are our friends, family and neighbours and we want them to stay after Brexit.”
