The Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has urged her constituents to feed-in to the key consultation launched by Southampton Airport over its draft Master Plan and long term operational goals.
The draft plan sets out the vision and potential growth path for the airport over the next 20 years, including plans for a starter extension to the runway, increased operations for larger jet aircraft and development of passenger facilities across the airport site.
As a result of the upgrades, passenger numbers are expected to grow from 2 million per year currently to 5 million per year by 2037, with the number of jobs at the airport set to increase by 50% over the 20 year period and an annual contribution to the regional economy growing to £400 million by 2037.
Commenting, Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
“This is great news for the community that I represent, increasing opportunities to fly and work at Southampton Airport while growing the local and regional economy.
“As the local Member of Parliament, it is my aim to make sure those great opportunities for our local businesses or holiday-makers are balanced with environmental concerns, local infrastructure needs and the challenge of growing sustainably .
“My experience of the airport is that they are a good friendly neighbour, and it is therefore really important that my constituents take part in the consultation so that their views are fully taken in to account. I’ll also be making sure we are all working together to deliver the thriving airport with a strong environmental footprint.”
The consultation over Southampton Airport’s Master Plan started today and will run for 6 weeks, ending on Tuesday 30th October 2018.
