This week, my colleagues in Government announced a £160 million investment to improve the energy efficiency of social housing, which will mean warmer homes which are cheaper to heat for tens of thousands of people across the UK, another positive step in our green recovery!
Every single one of us has a role to play in preventing climate change, and until now improving the energy efficiency of homes remains unaffordable for many of the poorest in our country.
This is why we are making this investment, as part of the Government's Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, upgrading the windows, heating systems and doors of 38,000 of the UK’s least energy-efficient social rented homes - taking them from EPC ratings of D or below to a minimum C rating.
This initiative will save tenants £170 a year on energy bills and make their homes warmer, whilst reducing the UK’s carbon emissions.
We have also launched the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 1 Competition for Registered Providers of Social Housing (including Private and Local Authority providers) in England. This competition will allow Local Authorities and Local Authority led-consortia to apply for funding to improve the energy performance of their social homes.
The competition will be open for 8 weeks with applications being accepted from 23rd August to 15th October 2021. Details of the can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/social-housing-decarbonisati…
The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund will upgrade a significant amount of the social housing stock in England currently, delivering warm, energy-efficient homes, reducing carbon emissions and fuel bills, tackling fuel poverty, and supporting jobs.
