Mims Davies, MP for Eastleigh, has met with Dianne and Lionel Yexley from Hampshire based charity Chrysalis Gii (gender identity issues) to talk about how the charity supports transitioning transgender young adults, late teens and all of those affected alongside their families across the Eastleigh constituency.
Commenting, Mims said:
“It was great to have the opportunity to hear more about Chrysalis’s work in the area, and particularly how they are supporting and championing our transgender community in Eastleigh constituency from their base in Warsash.”
“Chrysalis are invaluable in providing meeting centres with trained counsellors, support workers, workshops, peer support and support for parents and partners – during what can be a complex and nuanced period in a transgender person’s life.”
“I have long been proud to support LGBTI people through my time on the Women and Equalities Select Committee, and in the House of Commons chamber – making mention previously to Transgender Remembrance Day and to the importance of strong sexual health education in our schools as we approach Hampshire Pride on the 24th February.”
At the start of the year the Eastleigh MP joined local constituent and transgender campaigner Tara Maclachlan for a meeting with the Equalities Minister Nick Gibb, and spoke about the importance of bringing forward Government plans to hold a consultation on proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act 2004.
Commenting further, Mims said:
“I am pleased that this Government continues to support the LGBTI community, listening to their views on matters which really matter to them.”
“The proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act 2004 will lead to an easier life for my constituents - including those who are currently working with the Chrysalis - by making the process of changing legal gender easier. I therefore look forward to it being brought forward shortly.”
