Mims Davies MP was delighted to be able to join in with Loud Shirt Day in Parliament with Auditory Verbal UK.
Mims found it so important to join this reception in Parliament for Loud Shirt Day to meet the brilliant team at Auditory Verbal UK (AVUK), as well as speak to Noli, Louis and their families on such a sensitive topic which was very useful learning how Mims and her fellow MPs and Ministers can be of assistance.
Auditory Verbal UK are an award-winning charity that supports deaf babies and children to learn to listen and speak through Auditory Verbal therapy. They are also the only charity in the UK that provides this specialist, family centred, approach and equips parents/carers with the tools to support the development of their deaf child’s speech and language.
Hearing first hand what deaf children can achieve with early and effective support, including Auditory Verbal therapy, a specialist early intervention that supports deaf babies and children to learn to listen and talk, and how together we can all transform opportunities and outcomes from more deaf children across the UK.
At the event, Mims heard that Auditory Verbal therapy is not currently widely available for families through publicly funded services, and more than 90% of deaf children who could benefit from Auditory Verbal therapy are unable to access it. The Hear Us Now campaign aims to ensure the 7,200 deaf children under 5 in the UK have the opportunity to access to Auditory Verbal therapy.
Early and effective support is vital for all deaf children whether their families wish to use spoken language, sign language or both.
