Mims Davies MP attended an event in Parliament earlier this week to mark Alzheimer's Awareness Month where she met with representatives from Alzheimer's Research UK and heard about the findings of their report 'Tipping point- the future of dementia'.
Their report found, on average, more than a third of over-65s in England living with dementia do not receive a diagnosis, limiting their ability to access treatment. In Mid Sussex, the diagnosis rate is 63.1%.
There have been recent breakthroughs in research and two new drugs, lecanemab and donanemab, which can act to slow down memory decline, are both currently under appraisal by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
Commenting, Mims said:
With an estimated 1,671 people in Mid Sussex living with a recorded diagnosis of dementia, it has never been more important that research into this cruel disease remains on the agenda. I look forward to receiving further updates about the development of lecancemab and donanemab and encourage anyone with symptoms to speak to their GP.
