This week is National Epilepsy Week and Mims Davies MP has backed Epilepsy Action's campaign to show that #EpilepsyMatters, showing support for the 625,00 people living with epilepsy in the UK.
Last year, Mims welcomed government action to outlaw online flashing images that are sent to people with epilepsy to trigger a seizure. This Epilepsy Week, the focus is on the vital role that family, colleagues, loved ones and health professionals play in supporting people with epilepsy.
Commenting, Mims said:
This week I am delighted to support Epilepsy Matters and show support for the 625,00 people living with epilepsy in the UK.
Due to common preconceptions about what epilepsy means you can and can’t do, people are often met with unnecessary barriers preventing them from doing all the things they are capable of. Many are finding themselves excluded in school, from sport, social gatherings and relationships- this has to change.
Understanding that epilepsy is unique to each person is the key to unlocking the misunderstandings that prevent young people from experiencing every aspect of life. I remain committed improving early diagnosis and treatments.
