Mims Davies MP is proud to be supporting National Farming Day that was on the 12th October.
The government introduced the Farming Advice Service, funded by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) to help farms understand and meet the requirements of Cross Compliance and the European Directives on both water protection and sustainable pesticide use.
Farmers will benefit from a commitment to protect their interests in future trade deals, support to boost domestic fruit and veg production and new investment in technologies, thanks to a package of support set out by the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak this Summer.
Applications also opened in September for the Sustainable Farming Incentive. The new and improved Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) will pay farmers in England to take actions that support food production, farm profitability and resilience, whilst protecting and enhancing the environment. Thousands of farm businesses of all types and sizes have already registered their interest with the Rural Payments Agency to begin their applications.
As well as the New Entrant Support Scheme pilots where initial findings have now been posted this month and are currently being reflecting on and digging further into the detail as well as discussing their significance with stakeholders. Updates can be found here.
Mims Davies MP said:
“I have such admiration for the hard working men, women and families, especially in my constituency of Mid Sussex, who work so tirelessly daily to put quality food on our tables and look after our beautiful countryside.
Agriculture is one of the world’s oldest and most vital professions and sectors we must increase support to ensure they can carry on.
That’s why we have been re-investing a crucial £2.4 billion per year in the sector through new farming schemes, as well as introducing more support services and the Farming Investment Fund which provides grants for farming equipment and more to improve animal health and welfare and bring environmental benefits."
