We have some incredibly community minded people in Mid Sussex, so it was a great pleasure to visit The Kiln and to meet with members of the Kiln and the Shed.
The Shed was created as a place to go to meet new people and make friends and to enjoy either working on your own creative projects, community projects or sharing knowledge with other members. This would hopefully help address isolation, depression and other issues resulting from loneliness.
It is a local charity that is mainly funded by the support of its own members. The workshop is equipped with a wide range of tools and equipment for wood, metalwork, model making, leatherwork, upholstery and other handicrafts.
The Kiln was created as an art, craft and makerspace in the town. It has successfully grown and has now become a vibrant craft centre with a pottery, sewing club, art club, weaving, leatherwork and much more. It also hosts the Repair Café.
Recently due to the hard work of Jo and her team they have set up the Burgess Hill Creative Community Charity.
It was great to catch up with them and to understand their next steps and how I can be of assistance to them.
