Eastleigh MP Mims Davies has welcomed Botley Parish Council and local residents installing an air pollution monitor in their village.
The PM10 (Diesel Particulate) measurement device will be deployed for one month in the centre and will measure the particulate level of diesel contaminates.
The parish council has launched the initiative, with advice from a particulate measurement company, to find out the level of diesel particulates and then look at ways to improve air quality.
“Air pollution is a major issue in the Eastleigh constituency so this is a really positive step by the parish council and local people to find out how much of a problem there is and what are the risks to residents,” said Mims.
“Diesel particulates can cause severe respiratory complaints, especially in the young, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the device finds out.
“As I have stated before, tackling the traffic congestion that causes air pollution in Eastleigh is a top priority for me and this research will help build up a picture of where the problem lies.”
