£24 million boost for museums through the Museum Estate and Development Fund.
The 4th round of HM Government’s Museum Estate and Development Fund has launched!
The flagship capital maintenance scheme to support museum projects across England, particularly Mid Sussex, in addition to the core public funding many receive.
Museums across England are invited to apply for grants of between £50,000 and £5 million from a funding pot of £23.8 million during this round of the fund, which enables brilliant museums across the country to undertake vital maintenance, infrastructure, and service upgrades.
Since the Museum Estate and Development Fund was launched in 2021, 67 projects across England have received a total of over £40 million from the first two rounds – with additional grants totalling another £22.6 million from Round 3 due to be announced this spring.
These helpful grants have supported important maintenance and infrastructure works in our much-loved museums across the country, helping them continue to:
- Enrich minds and spirits
- Welcome new visitors
- Support thriving communities
- Drive the visitor economy.
Arts Council England, which delivers this fund on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, have published further information for those considering making an application, this can be found here:

"I highly recommend all in Mid Sussex who are eligible to apply for these brilliant grants.
It's fantastic to see for myself how the projects supported through previous rounds of the fund are helping museums to make important renovations, replace boilers and environmental systems with sustainable and efficient alternatives, and bring empty spaces back into use."
