The Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has met with the Chair of the Hampshire Branch of the Police Federation, John Apter, in Westminster to discuss local policing.
Commenting Mims said:
“As someone that has worked closely alongside police officers during my former job in road safety, I recognise the huge contribution that they bring to our communities and it was great to have been able to meet with John for a chat.”
“Locally I am pleased to have been able to visit the police Headquarters in Hamble, attend an event on how our police services would deal with a terrorist incident, and join officers for an anti-drink driving patrol leading up to Christmas.”
The Eastleigh MP has recently welcomed that new rules set out by the Home Office will allow Police and Crime Commissioners to accrue further funding, which in Hampshire could represent an increase of as much as £9.6 million when compared with 2017/18.
The local MP has also joined the Hampshire Constabulary marine unit for one of their regular operations and since called on Ministers to ensure that funding is maintained for this vital area.
Continuing Mims said:
“John holds an important role, representing the valued views of local police men and women, and I was pleased to have the opportunity to discuss a number of areas with him, including new rules to increase local police funding, officer safety, domestic violence and modern slavery.”
“I look forward to continuing to work closely with our local police officers and would again like to thank them for their excellent service to our communities and my constituents.”
