Mims Davies, MP for Eastleigh, was delighted to learn that Police funding across England and Wales would be increased by a substantial £450 million.
This includes a 7% increase in the counter terrorism policing budget, meaning that at a total of £757 million, the Government is spending more than ever before on counter terrorism.
Mims was also pleased to see that individual police forces, such as Hampshire Constabulary, are being given the resources they need.
Mims said,
“A large number of my constituents contacted me to say how important local policing is to them, their friends, family and local communities. Today’s announcement - which will allow Police and Crime Commissioners to accrue further funding – is therefore most welcome, and in Hampshire could represent an increase of as much as £9.6 million when compared with 2017/18. The local police do a splendid job and this is a welcome vote of support for their hard work."
“Meanwhile, I will continue to call on extra financial support for the excellent Hampshire Constabulary Marine Unit, which carries out such an important role in proactively keeping all of us safe.”
Mims recently met with Police Minister, Nick Hurd and believes it’s vital all MPs at Westminster use these opportunities to deliver the best for their constituencies.
