Mims Davies has welcomed further investment and upgrades on infrastructure projects within the Eastleigh constituency, which come on top of £2.5 million announced in March for improvements to Junction 7 of the M27 which will improve traffic flow in and around Hedge End and the introduction of ‘Smart Motorway’ to the M27.
Highways England - working in conjunction with Hampshire County Council and Southampton City Council – have announced a consultation in which they will set out plans to improve junction 8 of the M27 via the Windhover Roundabout and the A3024 corridor (Northam Road-Bitterne Road West-Bursledon Road).
The proposed scheme – known as the M27 Southampton Junctions – seeks to reduce congestion on local roads, improve journey times and support more journeys by bus, walking and cycling. It is expected that this will in turn help reduce congestion on local roads and on the M27 itself between junctions 5 and 8.
Welcoming the announcement Mims said:
“I am absolutely delighted to hear that progress on tackling congestion across my constituency is another step forward!”
“As the local MP I know that congestion, air quality and travel times are all issues that affect a large number of my constituents as well as local businesses, and was therefore thrilled ahead of this announcement to convene a meeting with local businesses and parish councillors. I am delighted that Highways England have listened to the comments raised in that meeting, and again welcome the support that the Eastleigh constituency and my constituents continue to receive from the Department for Transport.”
“Events as part of the consultation are taking place across the constituency, and I would strongly advise people to drop-in and feed in to this important and exciting project! Alternatively, if constituents are unable to attend then I would advise that they write to me with their thoughts so that I can ensure that they are represented.”
The consultation will take place between the 19th September 2017 – 31 October 2017, with details of the drop-in events attached. To find out further details about the project click here
