Mims Davies MP visited the Southampton depot of Hermes in her constituency on Black Friday to meet with the team working there.
The delivery firm has bolstered its infrastructure along the South Coast by relocating its depot in Southampton. Hermes had occupied a 25,000 sq ft facility in Nursling but recently transferred operations to a new depot in Hedge End. The high specification facility was built in 2011 and incorporates a mix of dock levellers and drive-in doors. It houses a team of 60 employees, and annual volumes are expected to surpass 10.8 million.
Commenting, Mims said:
“I am always delighted to visit businesses in my constituency, to meet the teams and to learn more about the goods and services that they provide constituents. It is very important to me that people have their voices heard and have the confidence to raise any concerns with me that they may have.”
“I was pleased to discuss a large number of items with Hermes, particularly in relation to the Governments continued commitment to the gig economy, and the way in which Hermes is exploring ways in which they can embrace technology such as driverless cars, drones and innovative ways of using data.”
“We also spoke about the importance of cutting local congestion, and how movement on this will further support businesses like Hermes to improve efficiency.”
