We really do have brilliant businesses in Mid Sussex, and I very much enjoyed seeing another new one. Introducing, owner Tom and his team from VIM in Albourne – a wonderful eye opener as to how one company are supporting those who have experienced neurological or musculoskeletal issues and are continuing their recovery with a combined range of therapies including neuro-physiotherapy and a membership gym for recovery and wellbeing. Their cutting-edge equipment and technologies are amazing. It was great to meet some of their inspirational clients, who had experienced different health traumas to hear how their journeys are progressing positively and how they are reaching their goals. Last Friday I also visited two schools in Burgess Hill, St Pauls and Burgess Hill School for girls. It’s always fantastic to meet students and answer questions, this time from the RE and Law and politics students at one school to the Politics students and a whole school assembly at the other. It’s great students are really engaged with politics and issues locally, nationally and globally. We discussed the environment, how to get started as a Cllr and what a day looks like in this amazing and diverse role.
I was pleased to bring forward the Cost-of-Living Bill 2nd Reading, in Parliament last week and announcing the next stage of the Household Support Fund. West Sussex will benefit from a further £9.7m through the Government’s Household Support Fund to assist local residents. I’m proud to be the Minister delivering this scheme for DWP, in addition to the next stage of key support through the Cost-of-Living Bill as we battle the global headwinds that we are up against post pandemic.
As a lifelong football fan and former Sports Minister, I welcomed the radical overhaul of football governance which will crucially give fans a greater say and therefore protect the clubs we love and support. A new independent regulator will be established with the power to block clubs from joining breakaway leagues and owners will have to rightly consult fans before making major changes to their precious club.
