The first Diabetes Awareness Event brilliantly sponsored by the wonderful Burgess Hill District Lions supported by the events team at BH Town Council was a huge success last Saturday. It was great to join so many people to get tested. Following on from the Lions Prostate Cancer testing event last year at the Triangle, it’s great to see these local events which are beneficial to our health.
Afterwards I visited Caroline from Carolines Fashion and Accessories, who has supported Burgess Hill over many years with her colourful and affordable merchandise. Caroline was placed in the top 20 for the ShopAppy UK National #LoveLocalDay awards. A very well-deserved win for a very special hardworking lady. You can find Caroline next to WHSmith on Fridays and Saturdays.
Thank you to Ruhul Choudhary, Chairman of Shabash Cricketers UK, for inviting me to the International Mother Day Language event last Sunday in Haywards Heath. A wonderful family and community event of great food, song and dance for all ages.
I was thrilled to join the British Kebab Awards, where Fatma Gungor of Fatma's Kitchen in Haywards Heath won a very deserved special award in the Chef of the Year category. Many congratulations also to the team from East Grinstead Charcoal Grill- it was a real honour to present them with their ‘Directors Award’, the final award of this huge and exciting evening for a key part of the hospitality sector that are on most high streets.
I joined the PM in the Chamber to hear about the Windsor Framework agreement, updating the NI Protocol and providing a new legal and UK constitutional framework, charting a new way forward. I look forward to seeing this progressing.
Last ‘sitting Friday’ in Parliament, I set out how the DWP is supporting new measures to further protect parents using the Child Maintenance Service through the Child Support Collection (Domestic Abuse) Bill. An important private members’ bill, being brought forward by my fellow Sussex MP Sally-Ann Hart. I’m proud to be the Minister taking it through its final Commons stages which means youngsters will be better protected and supported.
