Last Friday I met with UK Power Networks to gain further insight into the significant power outages on 9th, 12th and 13th March which affected a vast area of Mid Sussex. During our discussions, I strongly stressed concerns constituents had raised with me and the issues they’d faced. I was reassured to learn they’re on track to complete permanent repairs. From now on, customers in the areas affected will have a more reliable supply on two electricity circuits, so if one goes out the other one will kick in.
I recently had a great visit to More Radio. Radio is a great medium and very dear to my heart. It was great to meet Mak and the team, to see their studios and to hear their news and plans.
I have previously enjoyed visiting The Kiln and meeting some of the people that attend there, so I am very pleased to see they have an open day on Saturday 25th March filled with lots of techy fun, arts and crafts. More details at bhshed.org.uk
Last week the Chancellor unveiled his Budget for growth which breaks down barriers to getting into and staying in work, unshackles business investment and tackles labour shortages head on. 30 hours of free childcare for every child over the age of 9 months will be phased in until all eligible working parent/s of under 5s gets this support by September 2025. Households will continue to receive support with their energy bills as the Energy Price Guarantee will be kept at £2,500 for another three months and the lifetime allowance will be abolished, taking thousands out of the complexity of pension tax.
I was delighted to see the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill successfully pass through its Commons stages on Friday. This Government backed Bill by Henry Smith MP will ban the import of hunting trophies for specific species and is another positive step towards enhancing animal protections.
Finally, I wish St Pauls Catholic College the best of luck in the regional heats of the National Reading Championship Quiz on Friday 24th March.
