Last week was Conservative Party conference in Manchester, it was brilliant to catch up with colleagues as well as hear the PM set out plans to tackle a number of important issues in his speech. Funding intended for Phase 2 of HS2, will now be redirected to build Network North and fund raft of country wide transport projects, delivering the strong, reliable connections people depend on every day we really struggle here due to the daily congestion through Croydon.
The new Advanced British Standard will bring together the best of A Levels and T Levels into a single qualification for 16–19-year-olds and put technical and academic education on an equal footing, ensuring that all young people leave school knowing key basics in Maths and English.
New legislation will make it an offence for anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 to be sold tobacco products. Both my parents died of smoking related impact, and am very supportive of this measure, which has the potential to phase out smoking in young people almost completely as early as 2040 and means we call also tackle the scourge of youngsters vaping.
Locally, I had a great time on Friday at the official opening of EG Fish Bar in Stone Quarry, a new family run business in our area and a fabulous sister to the wonderful Cuckfish in Cuckfield. I also enjoyed visiting the High Weald Dairy, to see their delicious, multi award winning handmade cheese-and get involved in the very physical and interesting process myself!
