The Mid Sussex Plan latest consultation which runs until 23rd February is live and it’s absolutely key you have your say on it. A ‘Cuck-stye’ development has been rejected under the previous Conservative administration -MSDC is now led by a Lib Dem/ Independent coalition and its crucial people have a view on the future sites. Meanwhile, Mid Sussex and the infrastructure (or lack of) will be impacted by housing clearly going to dropped on our border by Lewes District Council. Also included in their consultation are substantial sites in places like Hamsey, another potential huge greenfield development on the edge of National Park, which I know residents in the small village are aghast about. We do need housing but in the right places with local support hence the brownfield first approach announced as part of the Government’s long-term plan for housing. Every local council will need to rightly prioritise brownfield developments and be instructed to be less bureaucratic and more flexible in applying policies that halt housebuilding on brownfield land. I recently met with Cllr Ann Newton the Conservative group leader on Wealden District Council to discuss local plans-which are vital to protect and grow areas suitably with jobs and housing in a sustainable way.
Over Parliamentary recess, I was delighted to show the Horsted Keynes Youth Council round the historic building and explain a bit about what my job entails. For anyone who is interested, we have regular tours and tickets to PMQs for all constituents - so please do get in touch if you'd like to join us in Westminster.
