Mims Davies, MP for Eastleigh, has reacted to news of additional strikes on the South Western Railway network.
“I am particularly concerned that in this hot weather, vulnerable groups of people such as the elderly or those in poor health will be made to wait in the sun on platforms for longer than normal, and perhaps not have a seat when their train eventually does arrive.
“It is frankly unbelievable that the RMT have decided to inconvenience hard working commuters and other rail travellers across the Eastleigh Constituency without even responding to the proposals sent to them by South Western Railway.
“I have written to Chris Grayling, the Secretary of State for Transport, asking him to do all he can to ensure that my constituents in Eastleigh do not have to suffer through a summer of strikes.”
The RMT Union voted to strike on mainland rail services across the South Western Railway network for 6 periods of 24 hours and one period of 48 hours between this Thursday and the beginning of September.
The strikes are set to occur on:
- Thursday 26 July 2018
- Saturday 28 July 2018
- Tuesday 31 July 2018
- Saturday 4 August 2018
- Saturday 11 August 2018
- Saturday 18 August 2018
- Friday 31 August 2018
- Saturday 1 September 2018
