The JCVI advises that for the autumn 2023 booster programme, the following groups should be offered a COVID-19 vaccine:
• residents in a care home for older adults
• all adults aged 65 years and over
• persons aged 6 months to 64 years in a clinical risk group, as defined in tables 3 and 4 of the COVID-19 chapter of the UKHSA Green Book on Immunisation • frontline health and social care workers
• persons aged 12 to 64 years who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression, as defined in the UKHSA Green Book
• persons aged 16 to 64 years who are carers, as defined in the UKHSA Green Book, and staff working in care homes for older adults.
NHS England will set out details on the start date of the COVID-19 autumn vaccination programme shortly. Moving primary course COVID-19 vaccination to a single dose approach In its advice published on 25 January 2023, the JCVI advised that the COVID-19 primary course vaccination offer (initial doses for those who have not yet taken up the offer of vaccination) should move to a more targeted offer during vaccination campaign for 2 those at higher risk of severe COVID-19.
The universal primary course offer ended in England on 30 June 2023. Following the latest JCVI advice for autumn 2023, the primary course vaccination offer will be offered to those in an eligible group for the autumn campaign, as listed above. In addition, JCVI has advised that the primary course two dose vaccination offer moves to a single dose offer.
The Government will continue to provide updates as and when further decisions are made regarding the COVID-19 vaccination programme.
