Last Friday Eastleigh MP Mims Davies took part in a tai chi exercise class held in central Eastleigh - one of many activities offered as part of the MHA Live at Home scheme. Recently appointed as Minister for Loneliness, and as former Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Carers, Eastleigh’s local MP Mims Davies has long supported the positive impact within the community this type of scheme can have in helping to reduce loneliness and isolation among older residents.
After the session, Mims commented:
“I really enjoyed taking part in the session alongside local Eastleigh residents. Schemes like MHA Live at Home are absolutely vital in helping to support our more mature residents to feel part of the community, live independently and reach out for support when needed.
“Having cared for my own relatives, I am incredibly passionate about supporting my constituents as we all mature, and it’s great to see charities like MHA offering such a wide ranging variety of activities and friendship sessions for people to regularly keep active and make new friends.
“My thanks to all of the volunteers that play such a key role within this organisation, and many others across our area. I had the pleasure of thanking many of them in person at the One Community AGM this year which celebrated its 40th year, and look forward to celebrating our charities on Local Charities Day which will take place on the 14th December.”
Mark Kirby, Eastleigh Live at Home manager said:
“It was lovely to welcome Mims to our Live at Home scheme and showcase the work we, and MHA, do in helping reduce loneliness and isolation among older people across Hampshire and the rest of the country.
“We know from members’ feedback how the schemes make a big difference to their lives, whether it is through helping them keep active, meeting and making friends at lunch or craft clubs or support through our befriending services. At Eastleigh, in common with all our schemes, our members are very much involved in setting the agenda for the activities they want us to run so they get the best out of them.”
