Industrial action will affect train services on various dates over the next few weeks as a result of different sets of action called by the ASLEF and RMT unions.
The RMT have announced strike action on:
- Saturday 29 July
ASLEF has announced that a withdrawal of non-contractual overtime will take place by its members between:
- Monday 31 July and Saturday 5 August inclusive
- Monday 7 August and Saturday 12 August inclusive
Travel Advice for Saturday 29 July
An amended timetable with fewer services will run. Services will be busier than usual and it’s likely you will need to queue, and you may not be able to board your chosen service. You should allow plenty of extra time for your journey.
Some routes will start later and finish much earlier than normal. There may be some short notice cancellations and alterations, so check your journey throughout the day.
GTR will not be operating the usual non-stop Gatwick Express service between London Victoria, Gatwick Airport and Brighton. Extra stops have been added at Clapham Junction and East Croydon, and as such these trains will be operating as Southern services. Gatwick Express tickets are valid on Southern and Thameslink at no additional cost.
Travel Advice for Sunday 30 July
The disruption from a strike day will have a knock-on effect which means that first services will begin much later than normal, with some routes having no services before 7am. This could be later depending on where you are travelling from, so make sure to check your journey.
Please note that journey planners for early morning services will not be updated until the day before travel.

Travel Advice for Saturday 5 August
The recent announcement of the ASLEF overtime ban from Monday 31 July to Saturday 5 August has meant GTR have had to reassess all of their plans for the network on Saturday 5 August as this date sees peak demand for Brighton Pride.
There will be no services to or from the Brighton area on Saturday 5 August
GTR has concluded that it cannot safely run any services as it would be impossible to avoid severe overcrowding and present a considerable risk to passenger safety.
In addition:
- An amended timetable will be in place across the GTR network
- Stations between Three Bridges and Brighton will not be served all day
- Trains will not run along the southern coastways into Brighton because of the amended timetable.
- Services to and from Brighton will be unaffected on Friday 4th or Sunday 6th August
