Mims Davies MP recently visited the Women in Prison exhibition held in Parliament to view a beautiful patchwork quilt created by women of HMP Holloway in 2012.
Each patch on the quilt gives a powerful insight into life behind bars for the women of HMP Holloway, with notable details including footprints from babies living on the Mother and Baby Unit and vibrant expressions of what the women are looking forward to upon release.
Mims met with Kate Paradine, Chief Executive of the Women in Prison organisation who is also one of her constituents.
Mims said:
“The exhibition was a fantastic opportunity to gain an understanding of what life is like for women behind the prison gates and to hear more about the work that Women in Prison do to support women affected by the criminal justice system.
“The support and counselling that the charity provide throughout the prison estate is essential in helping women to find pathways out of the prison system and sets up a new approach to women and criminal justice.”
She added:
“I’m proud of the work that those such as my constituent, Kate Paradine, have been doing to help female prisoners, making a positive and lasting change to the lives of women offenders and their families across the country.”
