Mims has welcomed an announcement by the Secretary of State for Education Justine Greening, laying out how under the Fairer Funding Formula every school within the Eastleigh constituency will see an increase in funding.
By 2019/20, it is expected that the Eastleigh constituency will have seen an average rise of 5.6% in schools funding when compared to funding for 2017/18.
Welcoming the announcement, Mims said:
“A number of schools and parents have raised concerns with me relating to funding and I have taken these to the very top of Government. Therefore I absolutely welcome the announcement by the Education Secretary, which sets out how under the Fairer Funding Formula every school within my constituency is expected to see an increase in funding, both in 2018/19 and 2019/20.”
“I remain committed to working on the concerns raised with me by the early years sector and stand-alone 16-19 sector, and will continue to champion these areas on behalf of my constituents.”
The MP for Eastleigh recently spoke in a debate on 16-19 education where she called on Education Ministers to recognise the important contribution of standalone colleges such as Barton Peveril and Eastleigh College to the education sector, in particular their achievements in ensuring that students are ‘work ready’.
A meeting has also been held with the Education Secretary, in which the Eastleigh MP raised concerns surrounding the early years sector, including the suitability of Ofsted inspections.
Commenting Mims said:
“I hugely appreciate the excellent work that is carried out within the nurseries, schools and colleges across the Eastleigh constituency and have had the pleasure of visiting a large number of them and meeting with both the outstanding staff and students.”
“Therefore, it is important to me that they in turn feel supported by this Government, and I will continue to represent their views here in Parliament.”
