Eastleigh MP, Mims Davies, has spoken out today on the report released by the Commission on Human Medicines’ Expert Working Group on Hormone Pregnancy Tests in relation to the Primodos scandal.
“I have been working actively on this issue with many campaigners and other MPs since I was elected. I am very, very disappointed at the conclusions reached in the report published today by the Commission on Human Medicines’ Expert Working Group on Hormone Pregnancy Tests.
“I am not at all satisfied that the Expert Working Group limited itself to its own terms of reference, and instead focused too much on establishing a causal association between HPTs and malformations in pregnancy, when it was meant to be searching for a possible association which requires a lesser burden of proof. Furthermore, I was thoroughly dissatisfied by the complete lack of transparency in the creation and preparation of this report, with the only representative of campaigners against these historic injustices on the panel being gagged by a confidentiality agreement and prevented from speaking about the report’s preparation."
“I know that Eastleigh constituents who have contacted me on HPTs, as well as others around the country, will share in my real sadness and deep disappointment today. The Prime Minister has agreed to meet me to discuss Primodos next Thursday, and I will be sharing their and my very large concerns directly with her and asking for her support to assist look at this issue and listen to families.”
Mims has previously asked a Question to the Prime Minister on Primodos at PMQs, and is an active member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Oral Hormone Pregnancy Tests.
