The Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has visited residents and staff at the charity Seeability’s Meadowmead facility in Eastleigh, to congratulate them on being rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission.
Commenting, Mims said:
“I was delighted to be able to visit Meadowmead earlier today, and take time to speak with some of the local residents about the fantastic support that they receive, thanks to the excellent work of the staff and of the wider Seeability team.”
“During my time at Meadowmead I had the pleasure of meeting long-term residents Mark, Sean and Karl. They spoke to me about how happy they are with their surroundings, and gave me an important insight into what life is like for them outside of their home, whether that be stepping onto or off of a pavement, or the issues surrounding traffic.”
“Sean and Karl, who are huge Southampton FC supporters also told me how they are able to attend both home and away games thanks to help from match attending volunteers.”
“Seeability is an exemplary national charity, not just caring for but pushing forward those that it supports to strive for a better way of life and showing them that their disability shouldn’t hinder them or hold them back.”
“In particular, I would like to congratulate the local team at Meadowbrook for achieving a Good Rating from the Care Quality Commission just last week, which comes as another testament to the dedication that these people have for the people they care for.”
“I was also pleased to take part in interactive work to see how sight loss can make even the simplest of tasks, such as making a cup of tea or getting shopping a real challenge, making the excellent work carried out by all of those supporting Seeability all the more important.”
Through their accommodation and support services, Seeability provide highly specialist support for people with learning disabilities and autism - many of whom have sight loss – across the country.
The charities life-changing work depends on voluntary donations. Gifts of money and time help fund the much-needed expertise and equipment that makes all the difference in helping people to overcome some of life’s most extraordinary challenges.
