Eastleigh MP, Mims Davies, visited an exciting new art exhibition at Eastleigh Museum. The Odissi Journey is a mixture of work produced by, amongst others, Sushmita Pati, who was there to meet Mims, and Lottery funded ‘Kala The Arts’. In a range of mediums, it captures the beauty of this story telling dance style that dates back as far as the 2nd century BC Hindu temples.
Mims said:
“It is well worth a visit to the Eastleigh museum to see this exhibition of film, costumes and display boards which runs until the 5th of July. This exhibition is timed perfectly to coincide with the AWCA Eastleigh Mela which takes place on the 22nd July this year at the Leigh Road Recreation Ground.
“I am pleased to be able to attend again this year and look forward to seeing both the traditional and modern performances and sample the wide range of edible delights that will be on offer.”
Mohammed Mossadaq OBE, of the AWCA, said:
“This year’s Eastleigh Mela will be the best yet and I would encourage anyone who has not visited before to put the date in their diary and join us for this wonderful local event.”
On her visit to the museum, Mims continued:
“Eastleigh museum is a great local attraction, and the Odissi exhibition perfectly demonstrates the important role that our museum’s play within our communities and society as a whole, whether that be some of our largest and most popular museums like the Natural History Museum – which I visited for an event earlier this week – or our local community museums such as we have in Eastleigh.
“It was of course particularly timely to be visiting as we celebrated International Museum Day and reflected on the amazing fact that 3 of the world top 10 most visited museums are in the UK!”
