The Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has spoken about her own experience caring for her parents while attending the Young Carers in Schools Event in Parliament this week in support of the Carers Trust.
The Carers Trust is a major charity for, with and about carers. They work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems.
Commenting Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
“It was great meet with young carers in Parliament alongside the Carers Trust team this week, including Kaci. Kaci is a carer for her Mum, and it was really interesting, having cared for both of my parents when they had various long term health issues, to hear about the support she receives, and what more support is needed, particularly in our schools.
“As former co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Carers, and through my work as both Minister for Youth and Loneliness, I understand the incredible role that carers, including young carers, play within our local community, and as Eastleigh’s MP I’ll continue to work hard to make sure that we care for our carers."
