Commenting, Eastleigh MP, Mims Davies said:
“Hampshire is such a beautiful part of the world and I know that my Eastleigh constituents will be delighted that there is now a proper celebration of our county and I thank all of those involved, including HM Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire Nigel Atkinson, as well as the team at Hampshire County Council. Our county’s rich traditions, culture, heritage and diverse communities should be celebrated and Hampshire Day is a great opportunity to do just that.
“As Eastleigh’s MP I very much look forward to this celebration of Hampshire and everything it has to offer becoming an annual event in the diary for people across our county, and I look forward to supporting its development over the coming years.”
Also commenting, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson Esq said:
“Hampshire Day is about celebrating everything that makes Hampshire great – its heritage, world-famous historic sites, diverse mix of towns and villages, beautiful natural landscapes and, above all, the people of Hampshire - both past and present. This is why I hope communities across the county will embrace ‘Hampshire Day’ by holding their own activities and celebrations, so that over time, this Day will go from strength to strength in fostering a shared pride in Hampshire and all that it represents.”
