The Prime Minister set out a blueprint for a green industrial revolution, covering clean energy, transport, nature and innovative technologies. This would allow for the nation’s contribution to climate change to end by 2050, while creating and supporting up to 250,000 highly skilled jobs across the whole UK.
The vital new strategy has a 10-point plan as its foundation. Some of the key points include producing enough offshore wind to power every home; working with industry aiming to generate 5GW of low carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030 for industry; making cycling and walking more attractive ways to travel and investing in zero-emission public transport of the future as well as protecting and restoring our natural environment and planting 30,000 hectares of trees every year; and creating and retaining thousands of jobs.
Mid Sussex Mims Davies and Employment Minister MP comments:
“This news is monumental in terms of helping to achieve the 2050 net zero target in Mid Sussex and as part of our great nation. Amongst other components in the Green Industrial Revolution, I am pleased that £12 billion of government investment is to be earmarked to create and sustain up to 250,000 highly skilled green jobs in the UK. This pledge is I hope what will spur local businesses on in Mid Sussex to take forward their individual green business plans and I look forward to helping them to do so in my capacity as their local MP”.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:
Although this year has taken a very different path to the one we expected, I haven’t lost sight of our ambitious plans to level up across the country. My Ten Point Plan will create, support and protect hundreds of thousands of green jobs, whilst making strides towards net zero by 2050.
End.
