Mid Sussex MP Mims Davies is delighted to hear that ten charities in Mid Sussex have been awarded funding as part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport’s £200m emergency funding pool. Organisations such as Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity, Age UK East Grinstead & District, IMPACT Foundation and seven other worthy charities working with vulnerable people often on the frontline have been included in the overall award allocated to Mid Sussex.
Distributed by the National Lottery Fund, it is part of the Government’s £750 million support package for charities announced earlier this year.
Mims Davies comments:
“This is truly wonderful to hear and undoubtedly very welcome news for these organisations who have remained serving our vulnerable communities in various ways throughout the pandemic. This funding stream can hopefully provide a boost to their interventions at this time as well as provide an opportunity for these charities to continue reaching out to those in need”.
Jane Plumb MBE, Chief Executive and Founder of Group B Strep Support says:
“We were delighted to receive £10,000 from the COVID Community Support Funding scheme in support of our helpline services. Like many other charities, 2020 has been an incredibly hard year and our income has dropped significantly while the need for our services remained high. Our Helpline continues to support hundreds of families a month who have questions about group B Strep, and what it can mean for their baby.”
Barry Gilbert, Chief Operations Manager Age UK East Grinstead says:
The monies have been used specifically for a new service we introduced “Rainbow Hot Meals”: a home delivery service of a freshly cooked meal at lunch time. Without additional funding like this we would not have been able to set up and run this service”.
Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden, said:
“Charities are there when we need them the most, and this emergency funding has kept their doors open during the biggest crisis for a generation.”
End.
