Eastleigh MP and Minister at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Mims Davies is urging her constituents to recycle their Christmas cards this year.
The pre-Christmas comments were made as an immense quantity of cards are binned and not recycled after the festive period, ending up on landfill sites.
Commenting, Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
“The hundreds of emails and letters that I receive demonstrate just how passionate people across our area are about the environment, both globally, nationally and locally, and as many of my constituents will know, it is a passion that I share!
“I appreciate that there are key things that the Government needs to do to support, protect and improve our environment, and I’ve been fortunate enough to work on some of the legislation that will do exactly that, but we also individually have a responsibility to ‘do our bit’ and as Christmas and the festive period draws near, and millions of wonderful Christmas cards are exchanged, that includes recycling those cards in a couple of weeks’ time.
“My constituents will know that it is easier than ever before to do so, simply putting all of your unwanted Christmas Cards into the recycling bin, and so please enjoy them while they’re decorating your homes, appreciate what they represent, remember the personal messages so often carefully contained within, and then, instead of just throwing them away with the general waste where they would end up on landfill, pop them in the recycling bin."
