Eastleigh MP Mims Davies has expressed her sincere disappointment in last night’s decision made by Liberal Democrat Councillors who gave the go ahead to build 250 homes on the Pembers Farm site.
Mims said,
“I wrote to the local Lib Dem Councillors who made this decision to strongly object to this application, on behalf of the many constituents and campaign groups who have contacted me with their grave concerns.
“Campaigners believe this decision will bring forward in the area the wholesale development of pristine countryside and Ancient Woodland and its potential significant impact on the nearby Stoke Park Woods, in through the back door, because of hostile applications such as these and the ongoing saga of the missing and much needed Local Plan.
“This is an ongoing nightmare for residents as building continues across Eastleigh in a hostile, piecemeal and unplanned way which makes the planning process adversarial, and residents are disappointed that the extra homes we need are in the wrong places.
“I am deeply disappointed with the decision that they have made so I have used the call in procedure at the Department for Communities and Local Government and asked the Secretary of State, Sajid Javid, to look at this decision.”
Cllr Judith Grajewski, Leader of the Conservative Group on Eastleigh Borough Council, said,
“I attended this planning meeting along with well over a hundred residents who were let down on the night by the councillors they elect to represent them. Residents' passionate pleas were swept aside. No wonder residents feel that planning is just a numbers game to our Lib Dem-controlled council. This decision was just the start of the controversial developer-led plans for Option C. Eastleigh Borough Council needs to get a grip and make a Local Plan with local people and for local people."
