Eastleigh MP, Mims Davies – who was recently appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Sport and Civil Society – completed her final Suffrage talk of 2018 at Hamble Primary School on Friday. In celebration of democracy and to mark 100 years since the first women won the right to vote in UK elections, the local MP has been touring local schools talking about the Suffrage Movement and the work she does in Parliament.
Commenting, Eastleigh MP Mims Davies said:
“I’ve had a brilliant time over the past few weeks talking to children of all ages about the Suffrage movement. The children have been so engaging, shown fantastic knowledge and an incredible global and environmental interest – I’m sure much in thanks to the passion shown by their teachers in the classroom and their parents at home.
“I’ve had some brilliant questions during the roadshow so far, and it’s been really humbling to see how passionate local children of all ages are about inclusivity within our democracy, and that includes the importance of women being elected to parliament.
“Understandably the children are getting really excited about Christmas now and it was my absolute pleasure to choose a winner and eight runners up for the design of my Christmas card this year. The standard was very high and competition fierce, and I thoroughly enjoyed looking through all the entrants.”
Due to the success of her Suffrage Roadshow, local MP Mims Davies will continue with her tour of local schools in 2019.
